Morrowind welcome to the arena

Originally released in 1994, the game still holds up fairly well. It is very interesting to go backwards in any series. Thankfully, games aren’t usually merited on how closely their titles resemble their stories. There is a weak explanation at the beginning, which says that because of the strife the world of Tamriel has gone through the citizens call it Arena…or some such nonsense anyway.

The title has very little to do with the story of the game itself. The first entry in the Elder Scrolls series is titled Arena. Until the release of the Elder Scrolls Anthology, I had no way of knowing. It was overwhelming and exciting but I always wondered what had happened in the series before I entered the world of Morrowind. I could go anywhere and do, or at least try to do, anything. The entire game world was accessible right away. My character wasn’t limited to the preset class choices I could make up my own.

Everything was incredibly detailed and my choices seemed to be limitless. I remember the experience as both frustrating and addictive. I had never played an Elder Scrolls game before and had no idea what had come before. My introduction to Tamriel came with Morrowind on the Xbox.
